During Eid, separate entry paths send slaughterhouse customers and pen visitors in different directions, and signs are placed across the market.

Sharjah Asset Management also runs smaller livestock markets in Al Dhaid, Kalba and Khorfakkan, each with its own hours.

The complex is built around separate shop blocks for each type of animal:

  • 141 sheep shops with their own pens
  • 26 cattle shops
  • 12 camel shops
  • 74 poultry shops
  • 44 fodder shops, 34 multi-use shops and 32 plant nurseries
  • An auction area, a Friday market yard, a veterinary clinic and a laboratory
  • A mosque with room for 386 worshippers

The auction area follows a schedule that the management office gives on request. The office is on the first floor and is open Monday to Thursday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Traders who want a shop send a request through the enquiry form on the market website.

Opening hours

Regular market hours run Saturday to Thursday from 7 AM to 10 PM, and the livestock slaughterhouse closes earlier, at 6:30 PM.

Slaughter fees

The fee depends on the size of the animal and is paid before slaughter:

Animal Fee
Goat or sheep AED 15
Small cow or camel AED 25
Medium cow or camel AED 40
Large cow or camel AED 70

Cutting is done to the customer’s request, and the chopping stage takes about 25 minutes.

Slaughterhouse capacity

The livestock slaughterhouse processes 240 animals per hour on its automatic line. Two other lines handle different loads:

  • Individual line: 150 animals per hour
  • Cow and camel line: 25 head per hour

The building covers 2,500 square metres, of which 750 square metres is the operating area. It has eight waiting pens for cows and camels, six sheds for sheep and four cold rooms that hold up to 1,000 carcasses.

The slaughter area is oriented toward the Qiblah, and a veterinarian monitors slaughter operations. Dedicated parking for company vehicles lets carcasses move from the slaughterhouse to refrigerated trucks on an automated line.

Eid Al-Adha operations

During Eid Al-Adha the market opens from 6 AM to midnight, and the abattoir starts directly after Eid prayers and closes at 3:30 PM each day.

Slaughter process

  1. Buy the animal from a trader’s shop.
  2. Pay the slaughter fee at the cashier area.
  3. The animal is moved to the designated slaughter zone.
  4. You are notified when slaughter is complete.
  5. The abattoir team brings the meat to a waiting tent outside the market, or delivers it to your home if you booked delivery.

Pre-booking & home delivery

Call 800 800 88 to pre-book a sacrifice. Pre-booking has been offered since 2024 to cut waiting times.

Home delivery runs through Barraq Vehicle Solutions Company. A pre-booked sacrifice is delivered rather than collected, because the service does not include self-pickup from the market.

Staffing & capacity

Eid staffing is doubled compared with regular days. The slaughterhouse then handles up to 300 livestock animals and 25 cattle per hour across three service lines, with 100 butchers working under eight inspectors and supervisors.

Twelve veterinary doctors oversee animal health and hygiene across the slaughterhouse and the pens, and 55 workers handle cleaning and logistics. The plan is coordinated with Sharjah Police, the public health and inspection departments of Sharjah Municipality, and the market control section of the Sharjah Economic Department.

Key takeaways

  • Buy and slaughter on regular days before 6:30 PM, when the livestock slaughterhouse closes.
  • On Fridays, plan around the break between 11 AM and 1:30 PM.
  • For Eid, pre-book on 800 800 88 and choose home delivery if you do not want to wait at the tent.
  • Expect a slaughter fee of AED 15 to AED 70, depending on the animal’s size.
